‘PINKTOBER’: What You Should Know About Breast Cancer & Its Awareness

Now October is known as ‘Pinktober’, as it spreads the awareness of Breast Cancer.

What Is Breast Cancer?

Breast Cancer is a disease common in women, in which cells in the breast grow out of control. There are different kinds of breast cancer, it all depends on which cells turn into cancer.

Is There A Chance Breast Cancer Can Spread Outside The Breast?

Yes there is a chance Breast Cancer can spread outside the breast through your blood vessels and lymph vessels. As told, when breast cancer spreads to other parts of the body, it has said to have metastasized ((of a cancer) spread to other sites in the body by metastasis.).

Can Men Get Breast Cancer Too?

Yes there is a chance, although there is less than one percent of breast cancer cases develop in men, men are also born with some breast cells and tissue. Yes, we all know a man does not develop milk-producing breasts, but one in a thousand men can still develop or will ever be diagnosed with breast cancer.

Here in Barbados throughout the year, we promote Breast Cancer Awareness, and for this month of October (‘Pinktober’), it’s also highlighted more. People here support the cause by attending seminars, women having their screening, some buildings are accessorized with Pink message boards and Pink Banners designs and large Ribbons. Even a number of Businesses financially support the cause and also change their digital logos Pink to reflect the awareness.

This coming Sunday, October 6th 2019, will be Barbados Cancer Society Champions In Pink National Walk For The Cure. Thousands here locally support the cause from as young as toddlers with their parents and even up to some Senior Citizens. The youth take part and older adults also take part in the walk too! After the event, there is even a cool-down activities such as Zumba and other group workouts to get you moving that waist!

Below are photos I gathered across social media on some local businesses visual support for the cause.
